Multicultural Requirement Effective Fall 2014

In addition to the core, every student must successfully complete at least one 3-hour multicultural course or its equivalent that focuses explicitly on the distinctive subcultures of the United States or on the culture of another society. Completion of an approved study abroad course, including assessments by the Texas Tech University Study Abroad Office, also can fulfill this requirement. Students who want to earn multicultural credit for a study abroad experience should register for the Global Scholar Certificate program in the semester prior to their study abroad experience. Students should refer to college and department degree requirements and recommendations when choosing multicultural courses.

Students graduating from Texas Tech University should be able to demonstrate awareness and knowledge of distinctive cultures or subcultures, including but not limited to ethnicity, race, gender, class, political systems, religions, sexual orientation, languages, or human geography.
