About the Carbon Capture Utilization Storage Undergraduate Certificate
The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the International Energy Agency agree that CCUS is one of the most important low-carbon technologies required to achieve societal climate goals at the lowest cost. Consequently, CCUS will touch every sector and industry, from agriculture to finance, manufacturing to transportation, and of course Petroleum. Now is the time to start building the in-depth knowledge to understand, develop, and implement CCUS projects because as petroleum engineers, new career opportunities will become available if we have the necessary skills and knowledge.
This certificate will help students develope these skills and knowledge by understanding the sub-surface aspects of sustainable CCUS projects.
After completing this certificate, students will be able to:
- Understand CO2 phase behavior and flow in the subsurface
- Learn how to create sustainable CCUS projects,
- Learn more about the physics of CO2 transport, injection, and storage modeling studies
- Know the practical aspects of CO2 flooding
- assess CO2 capacity and migration
- Understand Class VI CCUS wells and EPA permitting.
