The Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering offers two 30 credit hour master’s degrees: Master of Science in Civil Engineering (M.S.C.E.) and Master of Environmental Engineering (M.Env.E.). Both degrees have thesis and non-thesis options. Requirements for the non-thesis option are as follows:
- Students enrolling in a non-thesis master’s program may fulfill the degree requirements by either (a)completing 27 credit hours of graduate-level coursework and 3 credit hours of CE 6330 , Master’s Report; or (b) completing 30 credit hours of graduate-level coursework.
- Students will not be allowed to use credit/non-credit courses (e.g., CE 7000 ) to fulfill the required 30 credit hours.
- Students will be required to complete successfully a department-administered comprehensive exam during their graduating semester.

About the Civil Engineering Master’s Program
Students working toward a M.S.C.E. specialize in one of the principal subdisciplines of civil engineering (e.g., environmental engineering, structural engineering, construction engineering and management) in this degree program. Two degree options are available: (1) the thesis option allows students to complete 24 hours of coursework, perform 6 credit hours of independent research, and write a thesis based on the findings of the research, and (2) the report option requires students to complete 30 hours of coursework and write a report on a selected topic.
