About the Nutrition and Dietetics Master of Science
The Department of Nutritional Sciences offers a practice-based online M.S. degree program for students who are in the combination M.S./Dietetic Internship program at Texas Tech University, students in a dietetic internship without an associated M.S. degree, students who already hold Registered Dietitian credentials, or students who have a didactic program in dietetics (DPD) verification statement. This is a 30-hour, non-thesis degree. This degree is aimed at increasing knowledge and skills to be used in nutrition/dietetics practice and application of research in the work setting. It is designed to provide flexibility for students to earn their advanced degree while completing an internship or working full time. For students who are interested, this degree has three concentrations available: 1) Nutrition and Healthy Weight; 2) Nutrition and Sports; or 3) Nutrition in the Lifecycle. Nutrition and Healthy Weight
The weight management concentration is designed to develop skills and an understanding of the biological, cultural, environmental, psychosocial, physical, and economic factors associated with obesity and weight management. This concentration will enhance students’ ability to work with individuals to develop successful strategies for weight management.

Nutrition and Sports
The sports nutrition concentration is designed for people who seek to provide sports nutrition information to athletes and physically active individuals. Concepts include designing and implementing nutrition programs, interpreting research in the field of sports nutrition, counseling athletes, evaluating supplements and ergogenic aids, and working with special athlete populations.

Nutrition in the Lifecycle
This concentration is designed to provide a critical examination of behavioral, physiological, and public health issues impacting dietary and nutritional factors that support normal growth and development through the lifecycle.
