About the Renewable Energy, B.A.A.S. Program
The objective of the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science (B.A.A.S.) in Renewable Energy is to provide a pathway for career progression to individuals holding an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Renewable Energy Technology. This program aims to augment the technical expertise of students, equipping them with leadership skills applicable to their specific professional contexts. Students seeking the 120-hour Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Renewable Energy degree must have a 2.25 GPA and first obtain an applied associate’s degree from an approved A.A.S. program. Eligibility of a student’s A.A.S. degree will be determined by a committee within the Renewable Energy Program’s administrative unit upon admission.
Degree Requirements. To complete the B.A.A.S. in Renewable Energy, students will complete any additional core curriculum courses required for a four-year degree, up to 33 A.A.S. SCH in the student’s A.A.S. Occupational Specialty, 34 SCH of Renewable Energy Core, 11 SCH of TTU and College of Arts & Sciences requirements, and any electives needed to complete the 120 SCH needed for graduation; 40 upper-level SCH will be required. Any entering student who has not completed two years of a single foreign language in high school must complete at least two semesters at the first-year college level.
Global Component. In today’s globalized renewable energy job market, students who participate in a study abroad program or gain job experience through an internship, preferably with an international company, are considered more marketable and competitive. Students will complete the Global Component by choosing from the following global component options:
- Study Abroad Option. Complete an approved study abroad experience through the International Texas Tech Center, a Texas Tech-approved reciprocal exchange program, or a faculty-led program. Students must enroll in and successfully complete 3 credit hours of coursework with a grade of C or better to satisfy 3 credit hours of the global component. Departmental consent required.
- Internship Option. Complete an approved internship with an international company, either in the U.S. or abroad, related to the renewable energy field. Two hundred hours of job-related experience and a written report are required to earn 3 credit hours of internship credit. Internships should be completed during the student’s junior or senior year of coursework. Instructor approval required.

Foreign Language
If an entering student has not completed two years of a single foreign language in high school or has not transferred at least two semesters of a single foreign language from another college, the student must complete at least two semesters (or its equivalent) of a single foreign language at the first-year level as a graduation requirement.
Global Component
May be satisfied through an approved Study Abroad experience or internship with an international company (RE 4000 ), subject to department approval. See an academic advisor for details.
