About the Human Sciences, B.S.: FCSE Specialized Teaching Certification in HNFS (Nutrition), Grades 8-12 Concentration
This concentration offers a career path for Human Sciences majors interested in teaching nutrition at the eighth grade and high school levels. Students complete three prescribed areas of study along with student teaching that leads to teacher certification. Graduates will be eligible for a Specialized Certificate in Hospitality, Nutrition, and Food Science (Grades 8-12). Students seeking certification must meet all requirements outlined in the College of Education section of this catalog. Admission requirements for the teaching program include the completion of approximately 60 hours with an overall 2.75 GPA or better and a satisfactory level of performance on an approved basic skills assessment. Other requirements include a 2.75 GPA or better in professional education courses in the teaching field and a grade of C or better in all required concentration and support courses. To be recommended for certification, graduates must complete a fingerprint background check and achieve a satisfactory level of performance on the TExES examination prescribed by the State Board of Education.

3 hours Multicultural are required if not fulfilled by another course on the degree plan. 40 hours of upper-level coursework (3000- and 4000-level) are required in the major concentration areas.
