About the Applied Mathematics Graduate Minor

The minor in Applied Mathematics is an option available to all graduate students who are enrolled in a master’s or doctoral level program in STEM disciplines, including, but not limited to, science and engineering. The main goal is to familiarize the student with contemporary fields of applied mathematics, such as applied algebra and analysis, control theory, machine learning, scientific computing, statistical analysis, data science, and related areas. To satisfy the minor requirements, students must complete 12 credit hours of approved graduate-level mathematics courses. All courses must be at the 5000 level or higher. All courses must be passed with a grade of B or higher.

At least 9 credit hours of coursework must be from organized mathematics or statistics courses at the 5000 level. No more than 3 credit hours can be completed through individual study or seminars. Each minor degree plan is customized to best match the focus of the primary graduate degree plan. This is achieved in collaboration with the Graduate Program Director and/or Graduate Advisor.
