About the Pre-Veterinary Medicine Program

Although Texas Tech University does not offer a standalone degree or degree concentration in Pre-Veterinary Medicine, students may prepare for admission to veterinary medicine programs by completing the required prerequisite coursework within an approved degree program. Texas Tech offers a Pre-Veterinary Medicine (PVET) connection to support students pursuing veterinary medicine through coordinated academic advising and professional guidance.

Students establish a PVET connection by meeting with an advisor after enrollment to review career goals, degree options, and prerequisite requirements. Following advising review and confirmation of intent, students are connected to PVET advising resources, professional preparation guidance, and veterinary school application support in the Department of Animal and Food Sciences. Advisors with pre-veterinary medicine focus are available to assist students in selecting appropriate courses, degree programs, and experiential opportunities that align with veterinary school admission expectations.

The courses and requirements listed below summarize the minimum admission requirements for Texas veterinary medicine programs. Students planning to apply to a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program are strongly encouraged to consult directly with the in-state or out-of-state programs of interest, as admission requirements may vary and are subject to change.
