Nutrition and Dietetics, M.S. – Online


About the Nutrition and Dietetics Master of Science


The Department of Nutritional Sciences offers a practice-based, fully online Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. This 30-credit-hour, non-thesis program is designed for students enrolled in the combined M.S./Dietetic Internship at Texas Tech University, students completing a dietetic internship without an associated master’s degree, individuals who hold Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credentials, or students who have earned a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) verification statement. 

The program emphasizes advanced knowledge and skill development for nutrition and dietetics practice, with a focus on the application of research to professional practice settings. The flexible online format allows students to pursue graduate education while completing supervised practice or maintaining full-time employment. Students may select from three optional concentrations: Weight ManagementPerformance Nutrition, or Nutrition in the Lifecycle

Concentrations Available:

Weight Management


The Nutrition and Healthy Weight concentration is designed to develop skills and an understanding of the biological, cultural, environmental, psychosocial, physical, and economic factors associated with obesity and weight management. This concentration will enhance students’ ability to critically review research in the field of obesity and weight management as well as work with individuals to develop successful strategies for weight management.

Performance Nutrition


The Performance Nutrition concentration is designed for people who seek to provide nutrition information to athletes, military personnel, and physically active individuals. Concepts include designing and implementing nutrition programs, interpreting research in the field of performance nutrition, counseling athletes, evaluating supplements and ergogenic aids, and working with special athlete/military populations.

Nutrition in the Lifecycle


The Nutrition in the Lifecycle concentration provides an in-depth exploration of nutritional needs and physiological changes from early childhood through older adulthood, with special emphasis on women’s health across the lifespan. Students critically examine behavioral, biological, and clinical factors that influence growth, development, aging, and health outcomes.
