About the Family and Consumer Sciences Education, B.S.: FCS Entrepreneurship Concentration


Students majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) will have the opportunity to concentrate in FCS Entrepreneurship. With this plan, students will earn the Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Certificate, which equips students with the knowledge and skills to create a comprehensive business plan and understand the foundations of building a business in FCS rooted in ethical decision-making and an atmosphere that supports these values. Students will develop core marketing competencies and gain insight into the behind-the-scenes operations of running a business, including ensuring employees are well-informed about the organization and its facilities. The coursework provides essential content for preparing to launch a small entrepreneurial venture. Students will also learn the fundamentals of starting their own business and acquire practical skills relevant to Family and Consumer Sciences industries. This concentration leads to the undergraduate certificate in entrepreneurship, but it does not result in teacher certification.

Communication Literacy Requirement. Communication literacy in the Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences Education degree is evidenced by competence in analytical, aural, interpersonal, oral, written, and visual communication. The B.S. degree will use a sequence of four courses to help students achieve expected communication literacy in this program. The courses should be taken in the sequence indicated to build upon the skills and knowledge acquired in the previous courses. The required communication courses in this degree are FCSE 3301 , FCSE 4325 , FCSE 4302 , FCSE 4010 .
