About the Arts Entrepreneurism Graduate Certificate


The Graduate Certificate in Arts Entrepreneurism is designed for those who wish to expand their practical skills in the sought-after and competitive field of arts production, allowing creative artists, as well as engineers or others with interest in creative industries, to focus on advanced training and performance experience in contemporary arts production with appropriate emphasis in each student’s area of interest. Courses completed as requirements for another program can be applied toward the certificate.

The 9-hour Graduate Certificate in Arts Entrepreneurism is designed for students who wish to be proactive in an industry that is still reeling from the pandemic to create their own businesses using new metrics for now and future audiences. The next years will be challenging, both in the arts sector and in the broader global community. At the same time this provides a rare opportunity for the sector to revisit what success looks like and how we measure it and how we will share our creative work. The certificate focuses on:

  • how to launch a business in the arts as a solopreneur or entrepreneur
  • how to produce and publish your work in order to create residual income  

The certificate combines arts with business acumen, basic production and publication, pricing, sales that are aesthetically aligned to your audience, messaging, and entrepreneurial marketing. Anyone who wants to expand their practical skills in the sought-after and competitive field of arts production and publication will be able to set up their career as a business through completing this certificate.

The purpose of the Graduate Certificate in Entrepreneurism is to provide a contemporary and stimulating atmosphere in which students can successfully further their careers. The program is designed to prepare the strategic business practices, and the production skills needed in today’s performance and composition careers, both as skilled creative artists or engineers pursuing basic production and marketing expertise as non-musicians. Understanding the arts and media as a producer, collaborative educator, scholar, and performer will, in turn provide valuable service for the college as collaborative support for a variety of special performance production. This dynamic improves professional confidence in all types of partnership and reinforces the service aspect of the creative arts in our communities.
