About the Petroleum Engineering, with Thesis Master’s Program


The department graduate coordinator will meet, advise, and approve courses for the degree each semester. In addition to the written thesis, the candidate’s thesis committee will administer a final oral exam/defense of the completed thesis. This thesis option requires a minimum of 30 credit hours comprised of 24 hours of coursework (12 hours of core courses and 12 hours of elective courses) and 6 hours of PETR 6000  (thesis). PETR 5121  (seminar) is required during the first semester of enrollment. Please see departmental master’s handbook for more information and requirements. 

Non-Petroleum Students Admission in the Graduate Program

Graduate students who have the approval of the graduate committee and do not have a degree in petroleum engineering are required to complete the following four leveling courses as a prerequisite for enrolling in the graduate programs: PETR 5380 , 5381 , 5383  and 5385 .
