About the Software and Security Engineering Master’s Program
The Master of Science in Software and Security Engineering (M.S.S.S.E.) is a degree program with an emphasis on advanced security and software engineering concepts including information and computer security, software design and quality assurance methodologies, and practices in security and software production. This degree program requires filing a degree plan within the student’s first semester of study and passing the Final Comprehensive Examination as required by the university.
The degree plan for students pursuing a Master of Science in Software and Security Engineering must include CS 5373 and CS 5340 . The thesis option requires an additional three courses chosen from software engineering, non-software engineering, and non-security elective courses (must include at least two software engineering electives) and an additional three courses chosen from security elective courses, and 6 hours of CS 6000 . 3 hours of CS 7000 may be included to replace one software engineering or security elective course, but a total credit hour of CS 7000 must not be over 3 hours.
The non-thesis project option requires an additional six courses chosen from software engineering, non-software engineering, and non-security elective courses (must include at least two software engineering electives) and an additional three courses chosen from security elective courses, and 3 hours of CS 6001 . 3 hours of CS 7000 may be included to replace one software engineering or security elective course, but a total credit hour of CS 7000 must not be over 3 hours. All students pursuing a Master of Science in Software and Security Engineering must take CS 5120 with 10 computer science seminar summaries in their first or in their second semester.
