About the Cognitive Science Undergraduate Minor

Cognitive science is the interdisciplinary study of the mind, where the mind is understood in terms of representational and computational processes. The interdisciplinary minor in cognitive science provides a well-rounded training in cognitive science by allowing students to take courses drawn from various departments across the campus, including Psychology, Philosophy, English, and Anthropology in the College of Arts & Sciences and Computer Science in the Whitacre College of Engineering. The minor requires 21 hours of coursework, and of these, 6 are required and 15 are elective.

The psychology cluster is mandatory; students then choose 2 more clusters between philosophy, linguistics/anthropology, or computer science/engineering. By default, students can take no more than 3 non-core courses from a single cluster, and students must take at least 1 non-core course in each of their 3 chosen thematic clusters.
