About the Human Development and Family Studies with Teacher Certification in Family and Consumer Sciences Program


Human development and family studies majors can choose an option that includes teacher certification in family and consumer sciences. The concentration provides a background in all family and consumer sciences subject areas and a certification to teach in Texas public school systems grades six through twelve. Students seeking teacher certification must meet all requirements outlined in the College of Education section of this catalog. To be recommended for certification, graduates must achieve satisfactory performance on the TExES examination prescribed by the State Board of Education.

Communication Literacy Requirement. The primary goal of the B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies with Teacher Certification in Family and Consumer Sciences is to prepare well-qualified educators who can successfully communicate in a variety of settings and with a variety of audiences. This degree will use a sequence of four courses to help students achieve expected communication literacy in this program. The courses should be taken in the sequence indicated to build upon the skills and knowledge acquired in the previous courses. The CL courses for the B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies with Teacher Certification in Family and Consumer Sciences are FCSE 3301 ,FCSE 4302 , FCSE 4325 , and FCSE 4012 , (or RHIM 4316  B.S. in Restaurant, Hotel, and Institutional Management students).
